Why the change?

I have setup my own domain name irc.radiochat.org so that I can make it point anywhereIn the event we ever have to change IRC networks in the future, any such  move will be transparent if you use the new address.  This should be the last time you ever need to change the host address in your software to access #CQDX. If you have any questions, email N6RT.

Reconfiguring mIRC

mIRC has many configuration parameters, but there are only a few you need to set to get started using #CQDX.  After downloading and installing the mIRC program, you will need to create a new IRC server entry for irc.radiochat.org. The screens below were captured using mIRC version 6.03.  If you have an earlier version, the screens may look a little different.

Start the mIRC program.  Select the File menu and then Options (or press ALT-O).  The Options screen will appear as shown on the right.  Locate the "Category" part of the window on the left and click on the little box next to "Connect" to expand it as shown below.

Click on the Add button in the upper right hand corner and a blank Add Server dialog will appear as shown below.

Fill in the fields as shown in the picture below.  The Description field should be "RadioChat.org", the IRC Server field should be "irc.radiochat.org", the Ports field should be "6667", and the Group field should be "radiochat".  Leave the Password field blank.  Click on the Add button when you are done.

You will now be returned to the mIRC Options screen and "RadioChat.org" will be the selected server.  Enter your first name in the "Full Name" field.  Enter your email address in the "Email Address" field.  Enter your callsign in the "Nickname" field.  Enter your callsign with "-1" appended to it in the "Alternative" field.  Also, check the "Invisible mode" box.  Your screen should look similar to the one below (but containing YOUR personal information).

Now click on the "Identd" entry on the left of the Options screen.  Click on "Enable Ident server" and type  your callsign in the User ID field. Your screen should look like the one below, but your callsign should be in the User ID field.

Click on the "OK" button to accept the changes.  mIRC is now properly configured for use on #CQDX.

To connect to #CQDX, simply connect to the irc.radiochat.org server entry you just created and /join the #CQDX channel..

Reconfiguring DX-Telnet

Reconfiguring your DX-Telnet program simply involves changing the "Network Address or Host Name" entry for the "CQDX-Irc" site.

Start the DX-Telnet program.   Bring up the "Connect to site" screen by selecting the Site List item from the Session menu.  Click on the "CQDX-Irc" entry and your screen should look like the one below.

Now click on the Edit button to bring up the "Edit Site" screen.  On the Edit Site screen, go to the "Network Address or Host Name" entry, and change the host name to irc.radiochat.org.  In the Service Port entry, make sure Custom is selected and that the value in the edit box next to it is 6667.  Your screen should look like the one below.  Click on OK to save the changes and you can now connect.
